Pattern of OET Exam
OET provides a valid and reliable assessment of all four language skills – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. It includes for sub tests
Listening- Time duration for this test is 50 minutes. It use to check the Listening skills of person
Reading - Time duration for this test is 60 minutes. It uses to check the Reading skills of a person.
- Writing - Time duration for this test is 45 minutes. It use to check the Writing skills of person
- Speaking- Time duration for this test is 20 minutes
Listening-The listening test has two parts. In First part, candidates listen to a dialogue between a professional and a patient and are required to take notes under headings. In Second part, Student listens to a short talk by the health professional on a particular topic and are required to complete a range of open-ended and fixed-choice questions.
Reading
The reading test consists of two parts.
Part A- in this candidates read 3 or 4 short texts and complete a summary paragraph by filling in the missing words
Part B – It has time duration 45 minutes, in this candidates read two passages on a general healthcare topic and answer 8–10 multiple choice questions.
Writing
In this candidates write a letter, usually a letter of referral. For some professions, a different type of letter is required
Speaking
The speaking test is in the form of one-to-one conversations with an interlocutor. It includes a short warm-up interview about the candidates with a professional background.In this Candidates have 2–3 minutes to prepare for each role play. Role plays last about five minutes and is based on typical interactions between a health professional and a patient.
