Look up the dictionary and understand the meaning of words that you do not know. Listen to Radio like BBC, ABC Radio to improve your listening skills. Watch English news and English programs on TV, so that you get familiar with the accent. Once you read and hear a lot of English in some foreign accents you will be able to communicate better.

4. Join a coaching class for OET: Even if you are very proficient in English, take up some coaching classes for OET. This will make you understand the structure of the test .It helps you plan on how much time you have for each skill that is tested. Your teacher will make you aware of the areas you need to work on, for example you may do your role plays very well but not be able to write a good letter. Your coaching class will concentrate on your problem areas and help you overcome them.

5. Time yourself: Many test takers complain that they lost a few marks because they could not complete the test. All sections in the OET are timed. You need to answer about 30 questions in 60 minutes in many sections. Some sections like writing and speaking ask you to use multiple skills like reading and writing or listening and writing or listening and speaking. Once you know how much time you take to answer questions or perform tasks, you can learn to improve on the time taken so that you finish well in time and are relaxed and not nervous.

6. Understand the scoring pattern: Understand how the paper is arranged and how many points you need to get to pass the test. Check whether there is any negative marking.

7. Know the errors that will cost you the marks: Wrong spellings, bad grammar, overwriting, illegible handwriting, using short forms that are not commonly used, carelessly writing your answer against the wrong answer number, writing in short form or notes style, writing two answers where only one is required, these are some of the common errors test takers make and this may cost them precious marks.

8. Learn to choose the correct answer when answering MCQs: The challenging part about MCQs is that many times two answers look like the right answers. While taking a reading comprehension test, you may have to skim through a paragraph one or two times more to arrive at the write answer. When in doubt, think about the more correct one among the two probable answers and then make an informed guess.

9. Practice role-plays with a friend: To prepare for the speaking test, it is always a good idea to have a friend or family member practice with you. This way, you will get feedback on your pronunciation and your spontainiety. The speaking test asks you to imitate an imaginary situation at work. Your interaction with your patient should include a lot of empathy, explanation and you should make sure that your patient is satisfied with you explanation and recommended treatment. Never argue or get impatient with your patient. Ask your partner with whom you are practicing, to give you feedback on whether you appeared calm and reassuring in what you were expressing.

10. Take practice tests: A week or 10 days before the exam take at least 4 full length practice tests. This means that you have to keep away at least 4 hours for each test. Time yourself and try finishing the test within the designated time. Mark yourself correctly and check your scores. For writing and speaking tests, ask a colleague or a teacher to help you with understanding if you have rightly conveyed the message.
